David Goes Over The Top

Over the summer of 2011 I am setting out to fulfil a life goal of sailing my rather small yacht called Ruach from the Firth of Forth on the East of Scotland to the Firth of Clyde on the West, essentially sailing anti-clockwise round the Scottish mainland.
I blame my mother-in-law for the idea, as for one Christmas she gave me Brian Wilson's book called 'Blazing Paddles', in which he kayaked from the English-Scottish border on the West coast round to the similar demarcation on the East side of the country. Quite a feat for such a small craft I thought at the time, but that book sowed the seed for what is turning out to be my adventure.

I'm doing this trip for fun and funding the trip myself, but in memory of my Mum who sadly passed away last year, while I'm on this venture I'm trying to raise awareness of dementia in our society and specifically raising funds for the Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer Scotland. I'd really appreciate it if you could do your bit by supporting the charities through the 'Charity' link at the top of this webpage
. Please give as you see fit. Thanks!

The current plan is to cast off during the weekend of the late May Bank holiday and head East out of the Firth of Forth past the city of Edinburgh then North. Let's hope the Scottish weather is kind!
Follow me on my journey through the site blog. I hope to include pictures and post as the adventure unfolds. I eagerly await your comments and feedback.
